What's in a Name?

People sometimes ask me why my brand is called Eden Street. At bazaars, elderly customers even ask if I’m Eden, pronouncing it the Filipino way: Eh-den. I just smile and say, “Oh, no. My name is Micah, not Eden.”

In a nutshell, I named Eden Street after one of the main roads in the town where my business was born. That town is the little London borough of Kingston Upon Thames, or simply Kingston, where I did my MA in Magazine Journalism from 2014 to 2015. Throughout my year in London, I discovered a bunch of beautiful stationery shops. They brought me joy and inspiration, and reminded me of my dream of putting up my own paper goods store. I’d had this dream for several years by then. Since it kept popping up, I decided to finally make it happen.

Welcome to Eden Street + Advice for Starting Any Project

For my first blog entry on Eden Street’s brand spanking new website, I thought it would be fitting to talk about beginnings. Today, I’m sharing some of the advice that helped pushed me to launch my stationery business after sitting on the idea for years.

The first nugget of wisdom I want to share with you came from my rawr-some friend and fellow biz lady, Cara Gonzalez aka Carawrrr. I used to ask myself, Will people like my products? Will my items sell? When I was starting Eden Street, Cara told me that not everyone was going to like my art, but there'd always be someone who would, and that the “right” customers would find their way to me, and vice versa. She was right, of course, and I'm very thankful for my growing Eden Street tribe. I appreciate every single one of you!
